Initial Design

Good planning does not begin with an abstract and arbitrary scheme that it seeks to impose on a community; it begins with a knowledge of existing conditions and opportunities.
- Lewis Mumford

We believe that gathering all of the site information and determining constraints at the outset is a critical first step and crucial in the success of a project. Through ongoing collaboration, our team works closely with our clients to analyze all opportunities which then inform the initial design concepts. Moving through the design process, we develop floor plans and elevations with a focus on a renowned design process that merges innovative design with practical, client-focused solutions.

Detailed Design

Technical drawings and specifications are completed and coordinated with the consultant team. Prior to being issued to clients, construction documents are carefully reviewed through an internal quality control process. Building permits and drawings are then issued for construction.

This phase involves a continuous commitment to the project management, timelines, and follow through. Our team remains active throughout this entire phase with ongoing construction administration and field reviews to assist in ensuring that construction complies with the original intent of the design, errors are avoided on site, and projects are completed to highest quality design standards and building codes.

Project Completion and beyond

At Keystone Architecture, we believe in creating solutions-driven developments of lasting value. Seeing the culmination of our client’s projects through to completion is important to us. Witnessing those same projects standing strong many years later is a testament to who we are. Our greatest compliment is having clients return to us for future projects. View all projects

Today at Keystone, our team came together to recognize #orangeshirtday and the first-ever #nationaldayfortruthandreconciliation . Together, let's commit to reflect, honour the survivors, their families, raise awareness, and listen to Indigenous voices towards meaningful reconciliation.

With warm wishes, we announce the retirement of our Founding Principal, Ron Martens. For over 35 years, Ron has perfected his design/planning and client management skills to become one of the most well-respected business professionals in BC’s Fraser Valley.
Ron was the driving force to establishing Keystone Architecture (along with Norm Davis, Architect AIBC) 32 years ago and propelling us to our present industry position. He helped us achieve success through the development of worship facilities and recreational camps, which quickly emerged into unique ventures including multi-residential and retirement communities, industrial projects and more.
Many of our accomplishments would not have been possible without his hard work, dedication, and commitment to developing relationships within the community and projects that surpass our clients’ expectations.
Although we will miss the positive impact he had on our team, we wish him happiness and a more leisurely pace of life spending time with family, friends and his cars!
After 14 years of dedicated service, Sharon Gerbrandt, our Office Administrator, is setting her sights on a well-deserved retirement. Sharon is one of our most long-standing employees whose kindness, can-do attitude and creative mindset will be sorely missed.
Sharon joined Keystone Architecture in its early days as a small firm in Abbotsford. She has seen our firm grow immensely and been an integral part in managing our evolving office management needs, and seamlessly onboarding new employees. Her shining personality welcomes clients at the door, makes our team feel at home, and played a vital role in maintaining our collaborative and fun team atmosphere.
All of us here at Keystone will greatly miss Sharon, but we wish her and her family the best of luck in the future, and all the happiness a cross-country RV trip can bring!
There is nothing better than a client who is thrilled with the final product! We were recently reminded of how pleased our valued client #JMCProperties is with @legacyonparkave when it was featured in @thevancouversun newspaper.

The article highlighted this 6-story luxury residence, which boasts a stunning collection of 69 spacious, 2- and 3-bedroom condos, in the heart of #downtownlangley. This innovative design features curved, illuminated exteriors, and cutting edge, Cross Laminated Timber construction, which has insulation and sustainability benefits.

We are getting ready to bundle up again for the Coldest Night of the Year Walk on February 20th! @cnoyorg

This year is a little different than we have done in the past as we are organizing our own micro walk individually, but the goal is the same: walking to support and serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

This year our Abbotsford team is walking for the Mission Youth House (MY House) and our Calgary team is walking for the HomeSpace Society!
Please note that Keystone’s Abbotsford office will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 27th due to a BC Hydro planned power outage. Our main phone lines will be down, however, many of our staff will be working remotely and available by email or mobile. Thank you for your patience.
Keystone Architecture is excited to sponsor the Athabasca University on their upcoming Culturally Sustainable Design presentation on January 14th. As part of the Global Studio Lecture series, the talk will showcase explementary projects and discuss design solutions in a changing world! Join in on this presentation: http://architecture.athabascau.ca/news/
Please note our offices will be closed at noon on Thursday, December 24th and we will reopen on Monday, January 4th at 8:00 AM.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season and New Years from all of us at Keystone! ❄️
