CHALLENGE
- To preserve the mural artwork from a former pedestrian bridge that was removed after being deemed unsafe
SOLUTION
- To protect the murals, the columns were relocated south of their original location
- Custom-designed structural caps were added to shield and celebrate the artwork
- Bird-shaped cutouts in the caps cast dynamic shadows that echo the original artwork – created for the Crossroads Community Association to symbolize each of its three neighbourhoods through a distinct local bird species
- Landscape remediation integrates the structure into the new context and enhances the public experience
