CHALLENGE
- The challenge was to incorporate public amenities into an underused portion of a park, while maintaining existing trees and privacy for neighbours
SOLUTION
- Incorporation of a West Coast-themed picnic shelter with additional picnic tables
- Enhanced storm water management area and landscaping, including a boarder of shrubs to keep visitors away from private properties
- Flexible, unprogrammed space expands the park’s offerings for park goers of all ages
- Creation of a clear focal point that draws people into a central meeting spot
- A flat lawn area provides unobstructed views of the new picnic shelter
- Layered shrubs create a human scale to the space, and draw attention away from the private properties and back into the park, enhancing privacy for local residents
